John worked in healthcare for over 35 years both clinically and in management – primarily at the “Mater Hospitals” in Brisbane and until March 2018 was a member of the Executive leadership team at Mater for over 12 years. From April 2018 to April 2022 John fulfilled the role of CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities South East Queensland (RMHC SEQ) Chapter.
A Physiotherapist by profession, he has worked primarily in paediatrics and completed his Doctorate in 2002 at UQ and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors in 2015. Throughout his health career he has had a focus on supporting people with disability and other social disadvantage circumstances.
John has served in a range of Board Director roles over a 25-year period including both health registration boards and a range of not-for profit boards with a focus on health care services and social impact. He is currently the Board Chair of Help Enterprises which supports people with intellectual disability on a range of life services and opportunities in South East Queensland, Board Chair of Karuna Hospice Services Limited, which provides specialised home based palliative care services to the community in Brisbane and Board Chair of Holy Cross Services Limited which provides commercial laundry and cleaning services in the health and aged care sector with a purpose of providing employment for disadvantaged persons including people with intellectual disability.
In June 2018, John was awarded Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for service to the community related to infrastructure delivery in the not-for-profit health sector.
